One news-tipper claimed “thousands are dealing with the mess up from the IRS system. Not receiving funds on the date they were promised.”
Another news-tipper said “The IRS where is my refund site is down, and I am hearing from a lot of people that there refunds are being delayed this causes a lot of problems for a lot of people like myself that have bills to pay.”
When we checked on the status of the Where’s My Refund site, the following message was found emblazoned at the top of the website: “We’re having some technical difficulties right now but expect to have this resolved soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
When contacted, the IRS Media Relations Specialist said “The “Where’s My Refund” tool on IRS.gov is currently up and working. There was a period of time yesterday when it was down, but that is not the case now. Where’s My Refund is UP and WORKING. The disruption to the Wheres My Refund Tool [Wednesday] did not affect in any way our processing of tax returns or the issuance of refunds.”
The site was back up-and-running around 4:30 p.m. CST.
